Beans for Breakfast 12/30/11

Got to our vacation house and no water. Turns out the owners forgot to pay the bill, LOL
All is now good.

Ate the leftover black beans for breakfast with an egg and some toast, a little cran-chipotle and Greek yogurt. Yum! Not ill yet.

Got that out of the way, phew.

Tomorrow is my last day of practice. Can I really do this? 365 days? With all of my travels.... We'll see.

Chickpeas Count 12/29/11

Chickpeas are Garbanzo Beans and I just snarfed the Curry-spiced Chickpeas at Food Dance, currently my favorite restaurant. It is in downtown Kalamazoo and we try to stop there whenever making the drive to Chicagoland. This time we don't have to make the gruesome long haul. We get to stop near the Michigan/Indiana border for a long and wonderful weekend retreat with my brother and sister-in-law/BFFs.

But back to the beans. These little fried chickpeas with curry spice are amazing. Forget the French Fries, this is the bomb. I may have an addiction. Good thing I won't be back there for a while.

Husband ordered a side of black beans and didn't finish. So I took the leftovers on our travels and now have a backup plan for tomorrow. Even though he says it is unsanitary because he ate out of the container, I will risk it. I have a very strong immune system.

Flexibean 12/28/12

Sometimes you just have to be flexible. I was soooo looking forward to The Ravens Club, a swanky new restaurant/bar in Ann Arbor, for their Hummus made with white beans, and No Way!, they took it off the menu a few weeks ago. Too summery? Really? I didn't think hummus was seasonal. I'm pretty sure they eat it year round in the middle east.

It was replaced by a black bean dip so we tried that. Other than the fact that that they were stingy with the tortilla chips, it was very good. So phew, got my beans in.

Lesson? Plan my bean course earlier in the day in case something goes awry?

Sissy Soulfood? 12/27/2011

So I have this new years rez....eat beans every day. And my husband thinks I should blog about it...even though he says 99% of blogs are never read. the new year is still a few days away but why wait?

My husband gave me this cookbook for Christmas - Vegan Soul Kitchen by Bryant Terry. That's why today's blog is called Sissy Soulfood. Soulfood without meat? Are you kidding?

I asked him to pick out a recipe and he did- since I'm semi-off of work today.

I made Red Beans and Brown Rice with Red Wine-Simmered Seitan. (I cheated and used canned beans). It was really good. Even my meatatarian son liked it.

So that's it, short and sweet, eating healthy and yummy.
